Garstang Development vs Leyland & Chorley Development

This week was a true development game, with both clubs utilising their youngsters to great effect. This resulted in a more open game which Garstang dominated in the first half. It was fantastic to see our youngsters driving up the pitch with ball, (I had to watch as I can’t keep up)! With a little more finesse around the goal and we could have had 3 or 4 more goals.

It is fair to say that everyone had a good game, with plenty of time on the ball. I have to make note of Finlay’s goal, it being our first without an experienced 1st team player in the line up. Seth also went 1 on 1 with the keeper in the 2nd half, but sadly, the keeper won that contest - we look forward to watching our players develop as season continues.

Defensively, we were, for the most part, solid as a team. But the defence of Wade, Phil, Popey and Dan are become a strong unit. Notable performance amongst them for me was Phil, flicking the ball through and rounding a player a quarter of his age which was great to see his skill on display.

This week, I can mention Alex in wholly different terms - we had to wake him up for the half time chat. He did have a quiet game by comparison but was still there when we needed him.

MoM this week is difficult for as there are numerous contenders. So, it goes to both Finlay and Flynn, goal Finlay is looking good on the wing, and Flynn was solid as ever making some great movement off the ball. Final score 2:0 win to Garstang.
