Garstang Otters have arrived!
Saturday 21st September saw the first in a series of 11-a-side games for our Otters team. The league is designed to support our younger members to gain valuable experience of 11-a-side games. The team showcased their skills and displayed some incredible play, both collectively as a team and individually. All the players demonstrated incredible sportsmanship and teamwork. The opposition chose goal keeper Erin as their player of the match, and Coach Brendan was delighted with everyone's performance. Plus they were definitely the best dressed ;-)
As our juniors develop and grow older, they will start to think about senior league as they turn 12/13. Many junior games are often played as 7-a-side, and so suddenly starting on the bigger pitch, with a bigger team and more players and positions, can sometimes feel overwhelming for our younger players (and their parents), so to help this transition, GHC has entered an Otters team into a league that supports youngsters across the North West to practice and play in this bigger environment. Supported by coaches on both sides, the teams come together to practice and showcase their skills, working as a team to enjoy the sport and take away any anxiety around moving to bigger pitches.
The emphasis from GHC is very much on having fun and everyone joining in. Whilst a players desire to win will always motivate them, GHC promotes collaboration, kindness and teamwork; something that is achieved regardless of the final score. We encourage our younger players to think about the impact they have on those around them and what they can do to better connect with the team/club that they all belong to. By learning to work together, they learn skills that will easily transfer to whatever their future holds.
Our junior members train every Thursday from 5:50pm - 6:30pm and we are always welcoming new members. Please do get in touch if your child(ren) would like to come and play some hockey. As we look forward to supporting our Otters this season, we would also like to thank our junior members parents for their support, from turning up in all weathers, to transporting them to where they need to be - we are grateful for your support, thank you.
