Clean Sheet for Parkinson Report by Sarah Jenkinson

After last weekends narrow defeat to Pendle in a top of the table clash, Garstang picked themselves up and travelled down the road to mid table Preston.

Garstang had a tricky opening 5 minutes of pressure but the defence worked hard with Georgie Brumwell, Lindsay Thornhill and Captain Richardson sweeping up and clearing well. The first chance of the game fell to Preston when former Red, Kim Bell made a reverse stick sweep from close to the top of the penalty area and the ball just narrowly missing the left post. The travelling Reds recomposed and had their own chance not long later when they forced a short corner. Alice Marsden shot a straight strike but unfortunately it wasn't on target. Reb Worthington also came close shooting from the right but hit the sideboard of the goal.

Midfielder Josie Rice made the forward pass of the game so far striking the ball high from the centre of the pitch and straight on to Worthington who could've caused Preston some trouble in front of goal but the move was judged to be dangerous.

Di Roe working hard picked up a loose ball on the half way line passed long to Worthington who carried it to the back line. A great cross came in but a slight touch by a Preston player just took the ball away in front of goal from an oncoming Fran Summers who was certain to get her second goal of the season.

Garstang won a contentious short corner 25 minutes in. Jude Chapman took a shot and Worthington made it 1-0 forcing the ball in. Just a few minutes later Gemma Trickett and Josie Rice were playing some really neat one two passes with each other down the left with Rice striking on goal and Kiery Horne finishing neatly on the post to finally score her first goal for the Club; richly deserved after four strong performances and some narrow misses. Two nil up, the Reds were playing much better hockey, winning balls, passing well and creating.

Preston came out stronger in the second half but were not really a threat when they did get close to Garstang's goal. The Reds won two quick short corners but couldn't convert but eight minutes later a further short corner was clinical. Jude Chapman pushed the ball in, Fran Summers hit it straight back in towards the left post and with the keeper already beaten and Chapman now on the left post, she swept the ball in to make it 3-0.

Preston forced two short corners themselves with the first being cleared well and the second ending high above the Garstang goal. With 10 minutes left the last real chance came when a Preston sixteen was a poor pass out. Horne pounced but wasn't able to make the Whites pay.

A good solid performance from all areas of the pitch with Di Roe just edging the Player of the Match votes. The Reds nudge up to third in the table and look to get their 2nd place back from in form Lancaster who came down in to this Division this season and also got a good win this weekend at home to Liverpool Sefton.

Elsewhere, Garstang 2nds ands 3rds took all 6 points against Blackpool sides with a 9-1 away win and 7-0 home win respectively. Meanwhile the 4th team in only their fifth ever League game and no recognised keeper for this game, lost a spirited 2-0 away to Southport.
