Nine games in to the season and winter has arrived. Garstang eventually eased a comfortable away win at Longridge in freezing cold conditions.

In a dominating first half littered with chances, including a short corner where the Longridge keeper made a double save, it took the Reds half an hour to finally get off the mark. Mistakes by both sides lead to good work by Rebecca Worthington in the D and a short corner. Lily Helme slipped the ball in to Worthington who hit a long ball in. Kiery Horne on the far post unselfishly left Worthington's goal bound effort. At the end of the second half the reds were clearly dominating and it was evident the space was in the centre which allowed the player of the match, Georgie Brumwell, to push up the pitch and spread the play.

Moments into the second half, Garstang doubled the lead after another good run by Di Roe who slipped a forward ball in to Lily Helme. Having returned to the club this season after finishing university, Helme reached the bi-line then continued towards goal tucking it past the advancing keeper in the narrowest of angles.

Fifteen minutes in, Gemma Trickett made it 3-0 after Fran Summers just beat the Longridge keeper to the ball in the middle of the D and played a weighted pass past the final defender in to Trickett's path. Garstang continued to pile the pressure on as they had done all afternoon and earned themselves several short corners. A sweeping zig zag by Summers and Worthington around the back of the keeper to Lyndsey Hayes to push it in on the far post. Longridge kept fighting but not long later another penalty short saw a trademark Alice Marsden strike on the left of play, rattle straight through a host of players across goal and in to the bottom right corner to make it five with ten minutes left. Final great chance of the game came when Di Roe drove in another run to Kiery Horne on the bi-line who reversed it across the face of goal but neither Trickett or Summers could get on the end of it.

Another good win under Garstang's belt, the Reds always looked in control, pressing the ball hard and just as they did last week against Formby, creating lots of chances. The defenders neatly dealt with any signs of danger and at times made some forward runs of their own.

With several fixtures falling foul of the cold weather, including top of the table Pendle 1s whose pitch was covered in snow, the Reds closed the gap at the top of the table to 2 points and improved their goal difference. Next up for the 1st team at UCLan Arena are struggling Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern.

Elsewhere, the only other Garstang side in action this weekend were the 4th team who played away at Lancaster Nomads. Another spirited performance by this very young 3rd Division side losing 5-0 and still leaving the pitch smiling. Their first win will come.
