Second placed Reds entertained second from bottom South Lakes who play their hockey in Ulverston. The Reds got off to a flyer carrying on from where they left off after last weeks 6-0 win at home to Clitheroe & Blackburn Northern 1sts.

Reb Worthington took an early shot from just inside the D narrowly missing the right hand side of the post then two quick goals followed in the next five minutes. Centre Midfielder Josie Rice pushed a forward ball in to Kiery Horne, who in turn played Gemma Trickett in,who took a first time shot at the top of the D to open the scores. With the defender jumping out of the way, the South Lakes goalkeeper had plenty of time to clear the ball with no one in the vicinity but was rooted to the spot and the ball ran past inside the left hand post. Two minutes later the Reds won a short corner after Rice struck a similar ball in which hit a defenders foot. Fran Summers lofted a low shot in which hit the keepers pads rebounding out to Lily Helme who pushed it back in. Again hitting the keeper who ran out with Garstang forward Kiery Horne who just nicked it back to Reb Worthington in the centre between the top of the D and the penalty spot. No mistake this time, the forward made it 2-0 calmly pushing it to the left of the keeper and past two defenders on the line who couldn't keep it out.

The game calmed down after frenetic start until ten minutes later when Lily Helme just inside her own half, working hard down the pitch all the way to the byline and earned another short corner. This time Alice Matthews came up from the back and her straight strike just went wide of the post.

South Lakes did have their chances in the first half and regularly ventured forwards but the Reds defence efficiently cleared the ball back to midfield. The visitors only real chance came when they were awarded two short corners with the second shot coming in at pace to the left post and stand in keeper Lisa Richardson making a solid save with her foot.

The Reds unusually started the second half with their back to the low winter sun thinking this would set them up for a strong half but the game went flat ebbing and flowing with combative midfielders Jen Moss (player of the match), Jude Chapman and Lyndsey Hayes working hard and giving defenders Donna Richardson, Lindsay Thornhill and Georgie Brumwell a relatively easy afternoon. Right back Georgie Brumwell swept a forward ball to Di Roe on the half way line who made a great long forward pass to Horne. The cross came in from the right with Gemma Trickett running in on goal but the final ball wasn't delivered. Five minutes later, a chance came when Di Roe went on a similar run from the half way and passed a ball in from the right hand side the D but Worthington couldn't convert from short range.

The breakthrough came when the home side were awarded another short corner with Worthington's straight strike on target. An almost certain goal but in form forward, Kiery Horne getting the slightest of final touches just in front of goal to grab her first goal but fifth in two games.

The half was held up for some time after a South Lakes player suffered a nasty gash to her knee and had several minutes of treatment on the pitch. The only real chance coming in the final ten minutes when Gemma Trickett had a chance right in front of a busy goalmouth. The keeper forced it out but it fell straight to Worthington whose shot just went wide.

It was a quieter game for the defenders which on paper should have been expected. The forwards will again have been disappointed not to have scored more than three, from a team who have leaked more than that to other sides but in the four games between these two sides in recent years, the Cumbrian side were again a tough side to ease past comfortably.
